Nominet launched the shortened .uk namespace in Oct 2013. As part of the launch rules apply about who can and cannot register them.
The low down is that for existing .co.uk domain name registrants the .uk name has been reserved for you for a period of 5 years with effect from 10th June 2014 ending 10th June 2019. In that time no one else can register that domain. To register you need to make sure that when placing an order your registrant name and address information matches exactly to the .co.uk name.

So what happens to the .uk name on 10th June 2019 if I haven't registered it?
The name becomes available to the general public to register.
What happens if I order a .uk domain with you in the 5 year registration period and I am not the registrant for the .co.uk name?
